Owen had a great third day. He slept and then he ate. Then he slept and ate some more. It was all very exciting. In between, he had a couple of bouts of crying/screaming, but overall it was better than our first day home. Owen's grandparents also selected Owen's Chinese name which will be 偉大的寬限期 (Hung En) when kind of sounds like Owen and means great grace.

So little Owen had a big second day as well. He started the day at the hospital where he passed his hearing exam with flying colors. Then, he had a "procedure" done that is commonly done to little boys his age. A couple hours later, he got discharged home with mom and dad. The car ride home was peaceful and all was well in the world. That's when the fun began. I now understand what it means to have a newborn in the home, and Peggy said she understood what it was like when I take call. Yeah, Owen tested out his bagpipes all night and they are a health set of pipes. Fortunately, we all made it through the night. Lets hope the next one goes a little smoother. |

Owen Yam had an exciting first day, or at least Peggy and I did. Peggy's blood pressure had been increasing (not dangerously so though) throughout the day, and we got the instructions to get to the hospital right away. I drove with much haste to Peggy's doctor's office and then Peggy and I raced to the hospital on Tuesday through the wonderful Memphis rushhour traffic on Tuesday, June 3rd.
We got the hospital, got admitted to labor and delivery at Methodist Germantown hospital, and got the news. We were going to be having the baby that night. Peggy progressed through labor in what seemed to me like a lifetime and about 12 hours later, we had the greatest gift we'd ever been given. Owen Yam was born at 9:18 AM CST weighing in at 7 pound and 9 ounces. He had a great set of Apgars and below are his first pictures. We didn't even have time to grab the camera, so his first pictures sadly are from a camera phone. |
